SAB Sandwich panels: the right choise

SAB-profiel has a wide range of sandwich panels. These panels are divided into two categories according to their core materials, PIR foam and mineral wool. Sandwich panels can be used for excellent insulation and quick, trouble-free construction. Their most important application is for industrial buildings and storage warehouses. These types of buildings are large and high in volume and are usually used for industrial purposes, where relatively few people work. In terms of fire safety our priority is to ensure that people have ample time to leave the building. Classification in fire and smoke compartments is the obvious solution. Preventing the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings is also a consideration when choosing the type of core material.

SAB project - Flevo Power Station Lelystad

In 2008, the construction began in Lelystad of the most modern, clean and energy efficient electricity power station in the world, for Electrabel (a subsidiary of GDF-SUEZ). The new power station comprises two steam and gas units (STEG) fuelled by natural gas, each with a capacity of 435 MW and an overall efficiency of 59%. The latter is unique in the world. The station’s performance in terms of low impact on the environment is also excellent. The Flevo Power Station will be supplying more than 1.6 million households with electricity from 2010 onwards.
Apart from the turbine hall, the new building consists of a gas receiving station, an office building and a workshop. In total there will be more than 35,000 m² of roofing and cladding, including 13,000 m² of trapezoidal profiles SAB 35/1035 in Colorcoat HPS200® Ultra in white. This large scale project has been made by Nedicom West.

Market developments

Market developments in European countries vary from country to country. This is apparent from the figures recently published by Euroconstruct. The construction industry in Germany, for instance, has undergone a much less radical dip than it has in the Netherlands. The German construction industry has dropped by a mere 1.2%. The total shrinkage in the Dutch sector for 2010 is forecast at 9.3%, it is even more than the 6.0% decrease in 2009. In Belgium, the crisis will bring about a fall of 5.5% at the most. In England, where the crisis was acute in 2009, the total reduction is expected to be 14.2%. These figures are not conducive for any of us. Let’s hope that the economy in the various countries will face more progressive tendency than expected. And the prognoses of the experts quickly will transform into more positive bulletins.
